Lockport Township Supervisor Ron Alberico and the Board of Trustees announce the approval of a resolution voted on at the December 14, 2015 meeting. This resolution will allow the Township to purchase a 25,000 square ft. local church known as Parkview Christian Church, 1463 Farrell Road in Lockport, in the amount of 1.1 million dollars. This places Township government one step closer to creating the first ever community center and moving its operations to a more adequate space. The church recently relocated to the Homer Glen area.
The property sits on 7.24 acres located near Gale Gardens, a Lockport Township senior low-income housing complex. A CVS Pharmacy and Butler School are also in close proximity. The property site has a 40 X 30 ft. out building that will house our senior buses.
With the growth of the Township, the Assessor’s office is overcrowded and lacking much needed storage space. The Clerk’s office needs additional space for storing vital records and adequate space to accommodate early voting.
The Trustees have considered many options over the years. The Township looked into renovating our existing space and the possibility of building a new building. The most cost effective option is the purchase of the existing church building. The Township has been saving money for many years and in 2012 set aside 2 million dollars for the purchase and renovations needed to address future growth. There will be no need for a tax increase.
The Township will work with an architectural firm in order to utilize the new building space efficiently. A targeted closing date is set for December 29, 2015. We are hoping to be in the new location in 2016.
We look forward to bringing new and improved programs to our residents, along with a multipurpose community center for Lockport Township. Thank you for your support as we embark upon this exciting endeavor.
